Cleaning GIGAMEDIA Devices

This cleaning applies to any type of equipment that uses fans.

Exemple : Switch POE – GGM GS20024P2S

Why clean your device ?

In some cases, the fans on your devices may make noises or the device may heat up or even overheat. These problems can be caused by a large accumulation of dust in the fans or air vents.

This type of problem can occur if the device is exposed to a dusty environment or if it has not been cleaned for a long time. It is recommended that you dust your appliances every three to six months.

Verification

To check the condition of the unit, you will need to open the lid and examine the fans and air vents for dirt or dust.

Cleaning

Once the check is complete, we advise you to use a dry air spray for cleaning. Avoid using a cloth, vacuum, or feather duster, as this may damage the components inside the unit.

Here are the steps to follow to clean up:

  • Turn off and unplug your device. Open the case and check for dust. If there are a lot of them, remove the larger clumps by hand.
  • Follow the instructions that came with the dry air aerosol and keep it in an upright position when spraying.
  • Dust vents, fans, heatsinks, power supplies, hidden or inaccessible spaces, and any other areas where dust may accumulate.
  • Continue spraying until all dust is removed.
  • Close the case and start your device. When booting up, you'll probably notice that the fans react differently. In most cases, they will spin faster and cool the components better in the long run.
